Practical ASIC Deployment & Thermal Engineering Masterclass
Two-day intensive hands-on workshop covering hardware teardown, power balancing, ducting fabrication, and custom firmware calibration.
Program Overview
An in-depth, lab-based practical course designed for operators building or expanding small to mid-scale mining facilities in Australia.
Taught directly inside our Cowwarr workshop laboratory or delivered on-site at your facility in Victoria, this program emphasizes hands-on physical experience rather than slide-based lectures. Every participant works with calibrated diagnostic tools, real hashboards, and industrial-grade electrical switchgear.
Target Audience & Prerequisites
Who This Is For
Agricultural landholders with surplus solar capacity, regional workshop operators, electrical apprentices, and self-hosted mining hobbyists seeking industrial-grade knowledge.
Prerequisites
Basic understanding of AC power safety and direct current principles. No prior computer science or coding background needed.
Detailed Practical Outcomes
- Complete physical teardown, ultrasonic cleaning, and repasting of Antminer / Whatsminer hashboards.
- Calculating 3-phase balancing, sub-board breaker sizing, and continuous load factors according to AS/NZS 3000.
- Designing negative-pressure intake/exhaust plenums with acoustic silencer boxes that drop ambient noise by 24 dB.
- Flashing open-source firmware (Braiins / VNish) to autotune chip voltage, under-volt for hot summer afternoons, and maximize J/TH efficiency.
- Configuring Stratum V2 local proxy daemons for low-latency pool connections over regional starlink or 4G backup links.
Course Syllabus & Practical Stages
-
Day 1 Morning
Hardware Anatomy & Board Diagnostics
Physical disassembly of current-generation SHA-256 and Scrypt ASIC units. Identifying cold solder joints, hashboard ribbon pinouts, and power distribution busbars.
-
Day 1 Afternoon
Thermal Management & Airflow Physics
Static pressure calculations, CFM requirements per kilowatt, plenum construction, and hands-on thermal imaging to spot micro hot spots on hashboards.
-
Day 2 Morning
Power Distribution & Circuit Protection
PDUs, C19/C20 heavy gauge cabling, thermal derating of circuit breakers under continuous 24/7 loads, and safe grounding practices.
-
Day 2 Afternoon
Firmware Tuning & Operational Monitoring
Under-volting profiles, dynamic clock adjustment according to ambient ambient temperatures, pool configuration, and setting up Prometheus alerts.
Scope & Inclusions
- 16 hours of structured instruction and guided workbench practice.
- Individual workstation equipped with digital multimeter, thermal imaging camera, and torque-limiting screwdrivers.
- Printed 120-page Field Reference Manual with wiring schematics and airflow calculation tables.
- Lunch, morning tea, and espresso provided across both workshop days.
- 30 days of post-workshop direct email access to your lead instructor for layout review.
- Personal ASIC mining units (all training takes place on dedicated lab test hardware).
- Electrical contractor licensing or direct mains switchboard wiring work.
- Financial advisory, cryptocurrency trading recommendations, or token price forecasts.
Lab Safety & Capacity Constraints
Strict limit of 6 participants per session to guarantee dedicated workbench space and instructor time. Closed-toe leather footwear and eye protection mandatory on the workshop floor.
