Student Case Studies & Facility Reports
Real feedback from agricultural landholders, commercial solar operators, and electrical trades who have attended our Cowwarr lab sessions or commissioned on-site power audits.
Resolving Summer Thermal Throttling on a 75 kW Solar Farm Shed
The Operational Challenge
Darren and Megan operate a commercial fruit packing facility with 75 kW of rooftop solar. During peak summer midday sun, AusNet inverter curtailment forced their solar output to zero. However, when they attempted to run four air-cooled miners inside a metal shed, ambient indoor temperatures exceeded 48°C within two hours, causing constant machine shutdowns and breaker trips.
The Applied Solution
Through our Solar Integration & Rural Advisory session, we provided a custom negative-pressure hot-aisle exhaust design utilizing twin 300mm industrial wall louvres and an automated Modbus contactor loop that starts machines in 15-minute staggered stages only when solar generation exceeds 20 kW.
"Having an actual electrical engineer review the wiring schematics before we brought our local sparky in saved us hundreds in re-work. The custom hot-aisle containment keeps the shed interior at 26°C even on 38°C days."
Course Feedback & Field Reviews
Specific experiences from our 2-day intensives and diagnostic lab benchwork.
"I drove down to Cowwarr with two Whatsminer M30S units that had been tripping my workshop sub-board every time ambient temps climbed past 30 degrees. Lachlan and the team walked us through custom plenum construction and under-volting profiles. After fabricating the ducting we built during the second day of the workshop, my intake temperatures dropped by 11°C and the breaker trips stopped completely."
"We have a 75 kW rooftop solar array on our packing shed that was getting curtailed nearly every clear afternoon due to AusNet zero export rules. The consulting session gave us exact Modbus script templates and contactor staging schematics. We now direct surplus daytime power into four S19 Pros. Having an actual electrical engineer review the wiring schematics before we brought our local sparky in saved us hundreds in re-work."
"The micro-soldering and oscilloscope training was intense. Being able to trace a domain chain with a diagnostic test fixture and replace a faulty BM1397 chip with hot air under a stereo microscope is a skill you simply cannot learn from YouTube clips. The reference schematics are now kept right above my repair bench."
"Having our planned 3-phase switchboard setup audited prior to commissioning caught an issue with our neutral conductor sizing that our preliminary plans had missed. The written report was clear, cited the exact clauses of AS/NZS 3000, and our licensed electrical contractor had zero questions when installing the sub-panel."
"We wanted to heat our mechanic workshop floor during winter using waste heat from mining hardware. The immersion course gave us the exact sizing equations for our brazed plate heat exchangers and dry cooler loops. We have been running the hydronic system through the colder months without a single pump cavitation issue."
